Still retaining their original 17th-century layout, together with additions from the 18th and 19th century, these formal gardens are on a grand scale, designed for relaxing walks. So stroll along the majestic avenues to formal ponds and canals, past hedges and elegant statues, through woodland and over sweeping lawns. There is also a four-acre walled garden, where vegetables, herbs and fruit are grown, alongside resident hens and pigs.
