Brantwood Gardens
The mountain-side estate of social reformer John Ruskin, Brantwood Gardens boasts stunning bluebells, rhododendrons, azaleas and ferns, all set against unmissable Lakeland views. These gardens are a homage to the sublime Lake District scenery, as well as a celebration of the finest flowers and plants. Woodland walks connect the house and its dynamic garden to the lakes, so this is the perfect spot to revel in those unmistakeable Lakeland vistas.

Sizergh Castle and Gardens
One of the 32 National Trust properties in our guide, Sizergh Castle Gardens is the perfect day out. With elegantly planted gardens, an enchanting apple orchard, abundant kitchen garden, vibrant wildflower meadow and an impressive lake, there is plenty to explore. Fun for all the family, there are children’s trails and activities so they’re sure to be entertained. Visit in summer to marvel at the variety of wildlife and beautiful butterflies that pass through.

Lowther Castle & Gardens
International garden designer and Chelsea gold medal winner, Dan Pearson has reinvigorated the gardens at Lowther Castle. Complete with Parterre planted with herbaceous perennials, whimsical Garden-in-the-Ruins and a romantic Rose Garden inspired by the tale of Sleeping Beauty, this is 130 acres of spectacular and imaginative gardening. With an historic Great Yew Avenue and garden relics such as the Roman Bath, Lowther Castle & Gardens are a delightful fusion of old and new.

Rydal Mount and Gardens
Overlooking Rydal Water and Windermere, Rydal Mount and Garden boasts a stunning informal garden with views impressive enough to inspire the poet William Wordsworth. Abundant daffodils, bluebells and rhododendrons, as well as fell-side terraces and rock pools, make this a rugged and romantic spot nestled within the wild Lakeland landscape.

Levens Halls and Gardens
Home to the world’s oldest topiary garden, Levens Hall is home to a surreal collection of quirky evergreens, clipped and sculpted into abstract and geometric shapes. However, there is more than just topiary, with a fragrant rose garden, giant beech hedges, bountiful vegetable borders and wildflower meadow. Levens Hall is a historical treasure-trove, with gardens dating back to the 17th century, it is also home to the first recorded ha-ha in Britain.

Acorn Bank
Renowned for its herb and fruit orchard, Acorn Bank is home to a series of charming walled gardens, just waiting to be explored. From the newts sunbathing in the ornamental lily pond, to the bee’s buzzing above the vegetable patches, this dazzling garden is a haven for wildlife. Lily borders burst with colour and fragrance, while the ornamental pond is a jewel of the sunken garden.
