Sempervivum tectorum 'Rubin' is an architectural rock plant that makes an interesting addition to any garden. The purple-red flowers are borne in early summer, above rosettes of red, fleshy leaves. It can be grown outside in very dry spots but is best grown in pots of free-draining compost. It's an excellent choice for a rock garden or stone trough. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Grow Sempervivum tectorum 'Rubin' in well-drained soil in full sun. Excess moisture can damage the plant in winter, so it's a good idea to move plants indoors in autumn.
